Thoughts on mobile app development.

Photo Academy – The Shoot Diary

Today I’m going to give a little bit of insight into the Shoot Diary feature of Photo Academy.

I’m a strong believer that as you grow as a photographer, it’s important to be able to look back and see where you’ve come from. Not only does this allow you to see how much you’ve improved, but a large part of photography is all about capturing and sharing memories. I feel that the shoot diary really brings out the essence of this, and for these reasons it’s probably my favorite part of the app.

The things that you might expect are all there – date and time, location, weather conditions and free range notes. You can attach a photo as well, either from your library, or if you’re still on location you can take one straight with your device camera. This makes it really easy to see all your shoots at a glance. There’s also some optional sharing features, so if you have a particularly successful shoot it’s a breeze to show it off to the world.

I think there’s a lot of potential in the Shoot Diary. We’ve got some really neat features lined up for future versions, and I think once the app becomes available we’ll start to hear lots of interesting requests from you guys.

I’m sure most of you are wondering when Photo Academy will be available? I’m not quite ready to commit to a date just yet, as I want to get the app looking as nice as possible before release. However, that said, the next time you hear from me I’m planning to have the app complete and ready to go. Not long now!

  1. Sounds Great!

Any idea, when this will be available? :)

    • Thanks for your interest, but I’m afraid I’m not quite ready to reveal the date just yet. There is still some polishing that I’d like to do before release. It shouldn’t be much longer though, and I hope you think it will be worth the wait!

  2. When is this app coming out? You announced it awhile ago, and I have been waiting patiently. Fall, Winter or August??? Help us out!!

    • Hi Jim – thanks for your patience! It’s certainly taken longer than I hoped. The good news is that I’ve actually submitted the app to Apple just a couple of days ago, so it’s waiting for review by them. Typically it takes 1-2 weeks to go through this process. Once it’s approved, it will be made available. So all going well – you won’t have to wait much longer at all.

      • This is a day one purchase for me and i’ve been checking everyday, pleased to hear it won’t be long now! Loved the photocaddy app and really looking to the features in this one!

        • Great Aaron! Love the enthusiasm. You won’t have to wait much longer, Photo Academy arrives on August 18!
